About Us
Running to Our Own Beat
We're not professional athletes or music producers—just a group of friends who share two passions: running and music. Like many runners, we came to the sport for various reasons. Some of us started running because it easily fits into a busy schedule. Others were chasing the legendary "runner's high" and those mood-boosting endorphins. And yes, a few of us initially laced up our shoes hoping to shed a few kilograms.
Our relationship with running has always existed somewhere in the spectrum between extremes. Some days, we're filled with enthusiastic ambition, eagerly researching training plans and dreaming of personal records. Other days, we struggle with the same boredom and laziness that affects runners everywhere. We understand firsthand how motivation can fluctuate—and how the right music can make all the difference.
Where Music Meets Movement
As passionate music lovers, we've always been fascinated by music's remarkable ability to influence physical performance. The right song at the right moment can transform a sluggish jog into an energetic run or help push through that final challenging mile. There's something almost magical about how a powerful beat or an inspiring lyric can instantly change your mood and boost your willingness to move and stay motivated.
This connection between rhythm and running isn't just something we feel—it's backed by research. Studies consistently show that runners perform better and experience less perceived exertion when listening to personally meaningful music with appropriate tempos. We've experienced this ourselves countless times on trails, tracks, and treadmills.
The Playlist Problem
Despite understanding music's power to enhance our runs, we faced a recurring challenge: finding fresh, motivating playlists. Between busy work schedules, family responsibilities, and social commitments, few of us had time to curate the perfect running soundtrack regularly. We'd start runs only to realize our playlists had grown stale and predictable. Worse, we'd encounter low-energy tracks mid-run that killed our momentum.
Existing "running playlists" on streaming platforms rarely solved our problem. Generic playlists either didn't match our musical preferences or contained inconsistent energy levels that disrupted our rhythm. We needed something better—playlists tailored to our specific training needs and musical tastes.
The Reality: Most "running playlists" ignore the science of BPM and running cadence or ignore that music taste matters—exactly what kills your flow mid-workout.
From Frustration to Solution
What began as a simple conversation after a group run gradually evolved into Song2Run. Our initial goal was modest: create a tool that would help us filter our existing music libraries to identify the perfect running tracks based on tempo, energy, and rhythm stability using Spotify's audio analysis.
As recreational runners, we designed Song2Run to solve real problems we personally experienced. We wanted to:
- Easily discover which of our favorite songs had the right BPM for different types of runs
- Filter out low-energy tracks that might kill momentum mid-workout
- Create specialized playlists for different training sessions without spending hours on curation
- Keep our running soundtracks fresh and motivating
We built the tool we wished existed—one that understands both the science of running cadence and the deeply personal nature of music taste.
